Doha: Qatar Charity (QC) has received a donation from Korean Business Centre of the Commercial Department at the South Korean embassy for the benefit of kidney patients at Hamad General Hospital.
The donation was made part of the embassy’s corporate social responsibility and presented by Ambassador Chung Keejong to Mohammed bin Ali Al Ghamdi, Executive Director, Department for International Development, QC, at the QC headquarters.
Mohammed Rashid Al Hashemi, Director, Lulu Hypermarkets, Kwang-Il Lee, Head, Commercial Department at the embassy, and Shanavas, Regional Director for Qatar and Egypt, International Lulu Group, were present.
Cooperation between QC and the centre comes within the framework of the Korean Food Festival organised by the Commercial Section of the embassy in cooperation with Lulu Hypermarket.
Part of the proceeds from the festival was directed to charity work and QC was chosen as the implementing partner, with kidney patients as beneficiaries, particularly those needing regular dialysis.
Al Ghamdi expressed QC’s gratitude to the embassy and Lulu Hypermarket for “their noble humanitarian efforts”, saying QC strives to form partnerships that contribute to society, particularly the most needy, and that the social responsibility of institutions and companies make them key partners of humanitarian and charitable organisations.
Keejong said, “We are happy with the results of the festival and its popularity with the Korean community in Qatar.
“The donation for kidney patients underlines the commitment of all stakeholders to pursue noble causes to bring more value to our objectives.” Shanavas said: “Lulu and QC have been working together in the service to the community for a long time and we are pleased to contribute to this humanitarian cause.”
QC has signed a cooperation agreement with Hamad Medical Corporation through Qatar Center for Organ Transplantation to activate the agreement for organ donation.
The deal seeks to honour organ donors and their families and provide social care for the families of the donors after their death.
