Doha: The Diplomatic Institute at the Foreign Ministry organised a seminar on ‘Policy of the Republic of South Korea in the Middle East and the Korean Peninsula’.
South Korea’s First Vice- Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cho Tae-yong, addressed event, attended by diplomats and staff of the ministry and Cho’s delegation.
He said his tour of Qatar is to prepare for President Park Geun-hye’s visit after about one month after the Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani visited Seoul last November.
On relations and cooperation, Cho said previous meetings between senior Qatari and Korean officials confirm the keenness of both sides to move forward and promote cooperation in all areas.
“Qatar has been blessed with a leader who is seriously planning for its future. We were very impressed by him when he visited Korea for talks,” Cho said.
He said Qatar ranks first among exporters of South Korea as Seoul imports about 40 percent of gas from Doha.
Despite South Korea signing three gas agreements with Australia, Qatar occupies the first rank, he added.
Cho said Seoul seeks to diversify transactions with Qatar in areas, including information technology, communication, medical services, defence, and development of eGovernment, in which South Korea enjoys high reputation.
Qatar, UK defence ties reviewed
Doha: The Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, Air Vice-Marshal Ghanim bin Shaheen Al Ghanim, yesterday met Lt. Gen. Tom Beckett, Senior Defence Adviser for Middle East at the UK Ministry of Defence and his delegation.
Talks dealt with issues of mutual concern, particularly in the military affairs. Several top army officers were present.
Parachuting drills from February 15
Doha: The General Command of the Armed Forces has announced that it will hold parachuting exercises in Sealine from February 15 to 19 from 6am to 1pm. It urged people in the area to exercise precaution for their safety. QNA
