DOHA: ‘SANAD’, the newly created and launched ‘integrated suite of contracts’ by ASTAD, ensures successful completion of construction projects by avoiding possibility of disputes between parties that may otherwise arise due to ambiguity in the terms and conditions of a contract details, said a top official of the Doha-based project management and consulting firm.

Qatar International Center for Conciliation and Arbitration (QICCA) and Qatar Chamber (QC) in collaboration with ASTAD Engineering Consultancy & Project Management hosted a seminar on ‘SANAD’ at the QC headquarters which evoked huge response from local companies, especially the trading and contracting firms with extensive operations in the construction sector.

Prominent businessmen, legal experts, senior officials of companies, especially those who are responsible for drafting, signing, and implementing project contracts, overwhelmingly attended the event which discussed the salient features and other aspects of SANAD and the other benefits it may bring to companies.

The event was held in the presence and participation of Qatar Chamber and QICCA Chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani; QICCA’s Board Member Dr Sheikh Thani bin Ali Al Thani; ASTAD’s CEO Ali bin Nasser Al Khalifa; and its Chief Commercial Officer, Abdulaziz Al Mulla and other dignitaries.

ASTAD’s Commercial and Operational Division, with years of local and international experience, has developed a well drafted contract that clearly state the gridlines and agreements required throughout the entire construction process.

SANAD has been especially developed for Qatar, yet with the added feature of being adaptable to enable customised and tailoring to suit the requirements of any construction projects across the region.  “I am not saying that SANAD is free from any shortcomings and it is hundred percent perfect, because no one can be fully perfect. But what I can say is that the role of SANAD is big in avoiding disputes during the implementation of projects,” Al Mulla, said in reply to a question from the audience.

He added: “It is very effective in terms of different provisions of a contract, including payment claims, demands for extension for the completion of a project. It also has clear cut guidelines related to timeframe, especially with regard to claims, which facilitates quality addition to the construction sector.”

ASTAD, according to Al Mulla, has been working across a diverse range of sectors delivering excellent outcomes and innovative solutions for projects. “It (SANAD) complies with local laws, regional realities, and global best practices while holding equity, flexibility, balance, and effectiveness at its core,” ASTAD noted in a statement.

Sheikh Thani bin Ali Al Thani said that the seminar was of a special importance as it discussed SANAD which supports construction industry and contribute to better establishing construction contracts in Qatar and the region.

Ali bin Nasser (CEO of ASTAD) expressed his gratitude to the QC and QICCA for hosting the event and making it a great success. He noted that ASTAD is very keen to support and accomplish the long term vision of the country through providing the best practices in project management and assets.
