TQI programme helps teachers in developing methods of lesson delivery and managing classroom dynamics.
DOHA: Thousands of educators and students in Indonesia are supposed to benefit from Teacher Quality Improvement Program (TQI), launched by Reach Out To Asia (Rota), in collaboration with Vodafone Qatar.
The TQI programme, now in its fourth year of implementation, has been a big success in imparting improved and effective teaching techniques to teachers.
By the summer of 2014, approximately 1,500 teachers from the Yogyakarta special region are expected to have attended the intensive TQI training workshops; and this training will benefit approximately 180,000 students across 500 schools.
Launched by Rota and Vodafone Qatar in 2010, the TQI programme aims to develop Indonesian elementary and secondary school teachers’ pedagogical, social and personal competencies.
The TQI focuses on how teachers conduct themselves within the classroom and includes trainings on: methods for lesson delivery, preparing an engaging and stimulating lesson plan, managing classroom dynamics, and fostering a positive approach toward both teaching and learning.
Rota’s local partner, the Titian Foundation, is leading the implementation of the TQI programme components in the special region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
Essa Al Mannai, Rota Executive Director said: “Working together, Rota and Vodafone Qatar have created innovative and exciting educational initiatives, bringing hope of a better future to individuals and communities in Indonesia. Our TQI programme has been very effectual in improving teacher’s soft skills and equipping them with social, personal and pedagogical skills to better manage the classroom.”
Rota has been working in Indonesia since 2006, and in its early years focused primarily on school construction in areas struck by natural disasters. Since 2010, with the support of Vodafone Qatar, Rota has turned its attention to improving the quality of education through the implementation of various programs aimed at ensuring that students gain appropriate skills and knowledge to support their future endeavours.
“Vodafone Qatar’s purpose has always been to make a world of difference, whether in the way people communicate, or in improving their quality of life,” said Dana Haidan, Head of Corporate Responsibility of Vodafone Qatar. “Our partnership with Rota has resulted in improving the quality of education for teachers and students in Indonesia. We are proud of our relationship with Reach Out To Asia and we are confident that TQI programme will bring more success to teachers and students in Indonesia.”
Jonathan Miller Rota’s International Programme Manager said: “Our TQI programme has offered an extraordinary opportunity to teachers and students to access quality education that will be instrumental in shaping the future of many young.”
