DOHA: Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa) has invited entries for its annual ‘Conserving Building Competition’ being organised as part of its “Tarsheed” programme, a national campaign for achieving water conservation and energy efficiency.
Those interested can apply for the competition via Kahramaa’s website www.km.com.qa/tarsheed. Entry is open until March 1, said a statement yesterday.
The third edition of the competition launched by the Conservation and Energy Efficiency Department under the theme ‘Make a difference. Walk the Green carpet’ is open to all buildings comprising industrial, government, commercial, residential sectors and sports venues.
This year the tourism sector has also been listed in the contest.
The competition started in 2012, primarily with four sectors — commercial, government, residential and industrial — in its first year. The sports sector was added last year.
Only existing buildings are eligible to enter the competition, excluding proposed or under construction ones and villas with conventional window ACs and villas with flood irrigation systems.
Entries will be evaluated based on parameters set by a team of experts to test efficient design of mechanical electrical and plumbing systems in all buildings which includes HVAC System, lighting, plumbing fixtures, building automation, sustainability measures, specific energy/water consumption, building envelope for roof and façade, landscape and operational measures.
The contest aims to create awareness about the building conservation concept in all segments of society and benefits of building conservation practices (energy, water), motivate consumers to adopt building conservation practices in the local construction market, mobilise people and encourage them to embrace energy conservation strategies.
Conserving buildings are those that reduce electricity and water consumption, carbon emissions, and provide better living for residents in Qatar.
Winners will be announced and honoured at Tarsheed’s third annual celebration on April 22.The Peninsula
