THE General Manager of Cultural Village Foundation-Katara, Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti opened an exhibition titled ‘My memories … But’ by renowned Qatari artist, Ali Dasmal Al Kuwari at Katara Art Center, in presence of media personnel and representatives of diplomatic missions.
The exhibition that comprises eleven art pieces created using mixed media, reflects hazy images that make up our memories and are often embedded in our subconscious mind. For instance, the construction sites, infrastructure renovation and congested traffic lanes that the residents of Qatar deal with each time they step out of their homes, have become part of their memories as well.
Al Kuwari’s unique technique of combining mixed media with colourful strokes, has succeeded in capturing these undercurrents in a haunting and appealing manner. Al Sulaiti expressed gratitude and appreciation to the artist for his outstanding paintings, saying that the exhibition has artistically portrayed the effects of traffic and construction that has resulted from the infrastructure development being undertaken in the country.
Al Kuwari expressed his sincere appreciation to the Katara for providing him an opportunity to display his extraordinary paintings that tell a story from our minds and memories, which are often crowded with ordinary experiences and memories.
The artist is a member of the Qatar Society for Fine Arts, and has successfully conducted exhibitions in Egypt, Italy, Kuwait, and Georgia.
