DOHA: The Ministry of Interior Logistics Department yesterday signed a contract with China’s Nuctech Company to supply, install and operate equipment for inspecting containers and trucks which enter Qatar via Abu Samra border post.

The Director of Logistics Department, Brigadier Engineer Abdul Azeez Al Ansari signed the deal with Vice President of Nuctech Wding Weng.

Brigadier Saud Al Shafi, Head of procurement section at the department, said that the contract is worth about QR100m and includes two devices to scan containers and necessary buildings and accessories.

Brig Al Shafi said that the agreement grants the Nuctech eight months from the date of signing to obtain permits and approvals from authorities and 17 months to complete the project after obtaining permits. He said that preparations for the project began three years ago, during which a committee made a comprehensive survey of all companies involved in such projects to determine the best equipment and deals and understand the highest levels of performance. He stressed that the contract includes in addition to equipment and its buildings a control room, parking for trucks, staff training in the equipment and three-year maintenance warranty, starting from the date of delivery of the project.

Brigadier Al Shafi said that the project would have a positive impact on the flow and accuracy of inspection of trucks as the technique uses rays compared to manual inspection.
