South Korean international Nam Tae hee produced a close-range goal late into injury time to power Lekhwiya to their fifth Qatar Stars League (QSL) title victory following a fighting 2-1 win over Al Ahli.
Tae hee scored in the 95th minute as home side Lekhwiya picked up three points in the round 25 clash.
Lekhwiya, coached by Djamel Belmadi, now have an unassailable tally of 62 points with just one round to go.
Al Sadd, who were held to a 2-2 draw by Al Sailiyah yesterday, are in second spot with 58 points from 25 matches.
This is Lekhwiya's fifth QSL title victory since their maiden triumph in the 2010-11 season.
Belmadi was the coach at the time and the Algerian helped the Red Knights successfully defend their title the next season as well.
Eric Gerets was the coach when Lekhwiya won their QSL title in the 2013-14 season.
Michael Laudrup, the popular Danish coach, helped Lekhwiya bag their fourth QSL title the following year.
Ali Fereydoun yesterday opened the scoring for Al Ahli in the 5th minute of the match, leaving Belmadi and his backroom staff stunned at Lekhwiya Stadium.
But the home side regrouped quickly and produced the equaliser in the 35th minute when Ismail Mohamad found the net, much to the delight of the home fans.
Just when Lekhwiya fans would have given up on the team, Tae hee picked up a lose ball and sent it crashing into the net in injury time to seal the team's fifth QSL title triumph.
"Al Ahli's defense was so tough to handle in this game. Their players are so hard to battle against. They closed all gaps for us in this game. It was quality football. The goals which we scored were because they had made minor mistakes. But this is football," Lekhwiya's Ismail Mohammed said after their exciting victory.
"When I watched Al Ahli play El Jaish, I got the feeling that this (yesterday's) game could be a tough challenge for us. I saw Al Ahli is becoming a strong side and we were tad wary of them. But for this game, we used specific tactics planned by the coach and all of them were successful and we managed to get the win we were looking for. In the last few minutes, we were tense since we wanted that goal so badly. Thank God we pulled it off," he said.
Defender Khalid Muftah said: "Finally, we have won the title. It feels amazing. It has been a long season for us. I would say Lekhwiya deserved to win the title because this club gets all the support it needs. We have total support of the club management. Throughout the season, we only lost one game. That is a very good record. That shows how well we did."
Earlier, Al Sadd shared points with Al Sailiyah in a 2-2 draw at Al Sadd Stadium.
Al Sadd's Xavi opened the scoring in the 15th but Al Sailiyah's Sanjar Shaakhmedov scored the equalizer the very next minute.
Al Sailiyah's Valentin Lazar gave his side the lead in the 71st minute but Al Sadd's Baghdad Bounedjah (83, penalty) produced a well-taken spot kick late in the second half.
Al Sailiyah put pressure on the hosts with a couple of early moves in the first minute of the match at Al Sadd Stadium.
In the third minute, Lazar chipped a neat pass towards defender Mohamad Rajeb who failed to deflect the ball into the net from close range while being under pressure from the Al Sadd backline.  In the 12th minute, Al Sailiyah's Uzbek forward Temurkhuja Abdukholikov picked up a rebound off the feat of Al Sadd defender Mohammed Kasola before firing a bullet from the edge of the box.
The shot beat Al Sadd goalkeeper Saad Al Dosari but the ball curled away from the goalpost as the home team breathed a sign of relief.
However, in the 15th minute Al Sadd jumped to a 1-0 lead with a somewhat plucky finish.
Barca legend Xavi - the Al Sadd captain - curled in a beautifully-taken free-kick that hit goalpost and went into the goal after rebounding off the goalkeeper Gregory Gomis's body.
It was Xavi's 10th goal of the season.
Barely a minute later, Al Sailiyah scored the equaliser after Shaakhmedov produced an easy deflection inside the Al Sadd box.
Al Sadd mounted serious pressure with regular intervals and in the 27th minute, Xavi produced his trademark swinging shot from long distance. The ball narrowly missed the crossbar.
Two minutes from the first-half whistle, Al Sadd's Ibrahim Majed managed a snap-header that just sailed above the Al Sailiyah crossbar.
Al Sadd clearly emerged as the stronger of the two sides in the first 20 minutes into the second half but Al Sailiyah backline held firm to deny the home club.
In the 68th minute, Al Sadd's Bounedjah produced a snap-header from close range but his deflection sailed just above the crossbar.
In the 71st minute, Lazar produced a bit of solo run before smashing the ball into the Al Sadd net for Al Sailiyah's second goal.
Bounedjah scored Al Sadd's second goal in the 83rd minute off a penalty kick, much to the delight of home fans. It was Bounedjah's 23rd goal of the season.
