New Delhi: Schools affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will now have to get accreditation from 12 private agencies that the board has empanelled, an official said yesterday.
“The 12 agencies have been empanelled by the Board on the basis of a request for proposal, and after fulfilling several terms and conditions put forward by the Board,” Rama Sharma, CBSE’s chief public relation officer, said.
The accreditation is compulsory for all CBSE schools in India and abroad. Earlier, there was only a process of voluntary accreditation handled by the state-run Quality Council of India.
The accreditation will be awarded once the schools fulfil requirements related to infrastructure, innovation, academics and other areas.
The schools will have to pay an accreditation fee of Rs15,000. The accreditation will be renewed every three years.
The CBSE also warned schools that it would not register Class 9 and Class 11 students if they failed to build their website.
In October 2010, the board had sent a circular to schools to develop their website with information about the school and its management.
“As some schools are still to implement the direction of the board, we have linked the compliance by the school with the registration of Class 9 and Class 11 students’ registration,” Sharma said.
