DOHA: Qatar’s favourite cartoon characters from the Fareej show attended the concluding ceremony of ‘Welcome to Aspire’ Ramadan festivities organised by the Aspire Zone Foundation.
Fareej is the Middle East’s first 3D animated series that follows four ageing women dealing with life’s new social and cultural values and the characters made a surprise appearance in Aspire’s family Ramadan tent. Um Saeed, Um Saloom, Um Allawi and Um Khammas sported traditional costumes and joined children for games and activities and posed for pictures with them.
The Ramadan tent also hosted winners from the Aspire Weekly Question competition and the ‘Walk in the Dome’ initiative. The ‘Walk in the Dome’ initiative is part of Aspire’s community sports programme, ‘Step into Health’.
Al Bandari Mohamed Ali Mohamed, a fifth grade from Al Shaqab Independent Elementary School for girls, received an iPad for correctly answering Aspire’s weekly question. ‘Walk in the Dome’ winners were Saleh Ghanim Al Ghanim and Reggie Reich who had the highest number of steps at 452,000.
Included in the top eight are Lathio Aonarishnan, Willa Thantrea, Venayk Nike, Naji Oada, Manjuda Rejash, Ahmed Yahya, Mohamed Hassan, Bernard Sami and Nestor Garcia.
Qatar’s popular traditional band Abo Reba also made an appearance in the Aspire family tent, performing segments of the Samarita and Al Ashoori which are traditional Qatari shows.
Aspire’s religious tent, Afla Tobsroon, hosted Tarawih prayers, followed by religious lectures on scientific miracles in the Holy Quran. Preachers including Dr Zaghloul Al Nagger, Sheikh Wagdy Ghoneim, Sheikh Ahmed Al Faragabi and Dr Jamal Al Tpedi spoke on religious subjects. The religious tent also hosted Islamic competitions with prizes.
Aspire’s Ladies Club held the Baraha tent for the third consecutive year, in collaboration with Qatar Charity Society. It held educational and religious activities for children and revenue raised from ticket sales will go to Syrian refugees. The Peninsula
