Doha: As part of an initiative by Qatar Museums Authority (QMA) Chairperson H E Sheikha Al Mayassa bin Hamad Al Thani, QMA in collaboration with the Hamad Women’s Hospital commissioned world-renowned photographer Anne Geddes to undertake a photographic project in Doha.
Sheikha Al Mayassa visited the studio where Geddes, along with her team, is working on producing a series of 12 images portraying local athletes with newborn babies and young children.
The athletes participating in this project include Nasser Al Attiyah, Sheikha Reem Al Thani, Sheikh Ali bin Khaled Al Thani, Nada Arkja, Ali Al Mass, Hamad Al Hammadi, Hanaa Al Badr, Shaden Wahdan, Bahiya Al Hamad, Yassin Mahmoud, Maryam Farid and Moataz Majid and other local and former athletes. Anne Geddes took pictures of the athletes and finished the project during her visit to Doha in March.
Featuring past and current athletes and children of various ages, this project aims to demonstrate that a healthy lifestyle, beginning in childhood by taking part in sports and general exercise, can effectively reduce the incidence of Type 2 diabetes in Qatar. The series of photographs produced by Geddes will be used in future exhibitions, social media, catalogues, and publications.
“We are delighted to be working with the world-renowned photographer Anne Geddes on this important project that was the initiative of H E Sheikha Al Mayassa,” said Jean Paul Engelen, Director of Public Art at QMA. “Anne’s photographs are admired by millions around the world. These photographs remind us of the miracle of life and the strong bond between parents and their children, and the family bonds. Like the athletes, each newborn has the chance to become an inspiration for the next generation. This project can be followed on the QMA and Anne Geddes Facebook pages.”
