Pakistan urged to review foreign policy

ISLAMABAD: The government of Pakistan was urged in the Senate (the Upper House) to review its foreign policy and hold another All Party Conference (APC) on the issue of talks with Taliban and stoppage of Nato supplies, as the joint opposition continued boycott of the House.

The proceedings were yet again lackluster and continued for an hour due to absence of the opposition lawmakers. The sitting resumed after two-day break with a delay of 75 minutes.

Senate Chairman Syed Nayyar Hussain Bokhari, who received a report from the Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab Ahmad on the issue of non-payment of compensation to decree holders of the land acquired for AFV Rangers about three decades back, said he would form a special panel after consulting the Leader of the House and Leader of the Opposition to look into the matter.

The matter, however, could not be taken up due to the opposition’s boycott, though it was listed on the agenda. The motion was moved several weeks back by PPP Senator Farhatullah Babar.

Senators on the treasury benches strongly condemned the recent drone attack, which they saw a calculated attempt by the US to disrupt peace efforts.

The House adopted a resolution calling upon the government to take effective measures to eradicate the menace of child labour from Pakistan. internews
