Bank staffer jailed for 10 years

DOHA: A court has sentenced a bank employee to 10 years in jail and fined him for transferring QR12.2m ($3.35m) from customers’ accounts to the bank accounts of his wife and a friend.
The wife of the convict once called her bank and made some enquiries about her credit card. She was told that there was enough balance in her account.
The bank employee who checked her account asked her if she had any idea how much balance would be in her account. The woman said she had no clue.
Immediately after he hung up the phone the employee, suspicious as he was, approached his boss and told him about the huge balance in the woman’s account.
The convict was working with the bank, a famous one, since 2001 and was in-charge of electronic bank transfers. In huge e-transfers, alerts would be sent to the bank. The convict, according to Al Sharq, had blocked the alarm system and thus the transfers remained undetected.
