Doha: Pakistan International School Qatar (PISQ) organised a lecture-cum-workshop on ‘Mastering Spontaneous Speaking Skills’ recently.
The lecture-cum-workshop was conducted by Muhammad Abdur Rehman, Debate Education Specialist at Qatar Debate.
Muhammad Abdur Rehman highlighted the importance of spontaneous speaking skills as most of the time one needs to speak offhandedly. It was highlighted that the first requisite of spontaneous speaking is anxiety management.
One can manage one’s anxiety by adopting a few strategies like overcoming reluctance and taking the situation as an opportunity. Moreover, focus on present rather than on far reaching outcome reduces anxiety.
Some techniques like tongue twisters can help in developing focus on the present. Furthermore, for effective spontaneous speaking, one should adopt useful structures.
It was concluded that one needs to develop a ‘muscle’ for spontaneous speaking skills through regular practice. The lecture was punctuated with interesting and interactive activities which kept the audience engaged throughout the session.
The session provided students with an opportunity to get a broad insight into Spontaneous Speaking.
Secondary School students from Senior Boys Wing and Senior Girls Wing attended the Lecture-cum-Workshop. Vice Principals of Senior Boys Wing and Senior Girls Wing, accompanied by five faculty members, also attended the session.
