Doha: Qatar Tennis Federation (QTF) will mark the National Sport Day today by organising a number of sport events at Katara, Barzan Youth Centre (Umm Salal), Duhail School for girls, Global Academy and the Khalifa Tennis and Squash Complex.
The National Sport Day is an annual event celebrated across Qatar on the second Tuesday of February. It aims to bring the nation together in a shared celebration of sport and inspire people to lead active and healthy lifestyles.
At the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex, the QTF will organise an open sport day to feature the participation of the embassies of France, Philippines, Pakistan, India and Morocco.
On the occasion on the National Sport Day, the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex will provide the optimal atmosphere for interaction between civilisations as it will offer a space for each embassy to organize its traditional sports.
The list of events to be organised at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex also includes tournaments and sport competitions for grassroots of the national tennis teams.
At Katara, the QTF will build some mini tennis courts under the supervision of its coaches who will be available to teach Katara visitors, the basics of tennis.
In light of its efforts to widen the base of participation in the tennis-related events in the state of Qatar, the QTF will organise some sports events at Duhail School for girls and the Global Academy.
These events, which include mini tennis tournaments, aim at encouraging students to participate in the sport activities.
The QTF President Nasser bin Ghanim Al Khelaifi said: “The National Sport Day is a national initiative that reflects the importance of sport for our wise leadership represented in HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani as sport plays a vital role in building a healthy society that able to bring about the desirable development”
“The QTF spares no effort in developing sport and supporting the national vision which aims at building a healthy society by organising a wide range of events at the National Sport Day and throughout the year to encourage the community members to lead active and healthy lifestyles” added the QTF President.
For his part, the QTF Assistant Secretary General Tariq Zainal said: “The QTF spares no effort in supporting the goals of H H Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to increase the awareness about importance of sport and to encourage the community members to adopt healthy lifestyles.” “The National Sport Day activities will support our strategy to promote tennis in the state of Qatar” added the QTF Assistant Sectary General.
