DOHA: Except for a child who went into a coma due to severe stomach problem on the first day of Eid Al Fitr yesterday, the day went off relatively peacefully.

More than 200 children’s emergency cases were reported to Al Sadd and other centres throughout the day.

Most of them were related to fever, minor respiratory complaints and stomach problems.

No death or critical injury cases were reported to the emergency unit of Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) either.

More than 500 people turned up for emergency medical care during the day, with most complaining of upset stomach due to overeating and minor heart problems.

The emergency unit at HMC had deployed 52 ambulances, while the air ambulance received more than 100 urgent calls, aside from calls for help in some 45 accidents, 19 of them at workplace.

Al Sadd paediatric emergency said it will be deploying six to eight doctors in its sections in the morning shift, while the number would be doubled to 16 in the evening due to a heavier patient turnout.

“We didn’t receive serious injury cases in accidents, or any other critical cases,” said a doctor on duty at the emergency unit at HMC.

He said stomach problems were caused due to overeating after a month of daytime fasting during Ramadan.

People should gradually — not suddenly — get back to their eating routine after the end of the fasting month.

Meanwhile, the hot and humid weather didn’t prevent people from venturing out for revelry. Places like Corniche, City Center and Souq Waqif witnessed large turnouts during the day yesterday.

Minor traffic accidents did take place on the Corniche Road, causing traffic jams but public security personnel managed to ensure smooth traffic.

Slaughter houses didn’t witnesses large turnouts as they normally do during Eid Al Adha. Some 1,100 sheep were slaughtered at various abattoirs run by Widam, the Qatar Meat and Livestock Company.

The Meteorology Department has in the meantime forecast humid weather today but said there were chances of scattered clouds and drizzle in some places.

Temperatures could soar up to 40 degrees Celsius, with Al Ruwais in the north expected to be a bit cooler with the mercury levels ranging between 31 and 37 degrees.

Northeasterly winds in the day could have a speed of up to 12 knots an hour, but the wind direction changing to northwesterly could bring in temporary respite since humidity levels are expected to be quite high during at night as the wind changes direction again to southeast with speed slowing down to seven knots an hour.
