15 families evacuated in Himachal after landslides

Shimla: At least 15 families were yesterday evacuated from two villages in Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district after landslides, following a downpour, posed a threat to their houses, an official said.
The affected villages are Chohla and Patola in Kajlot panchayat overlooking Dharamsala town, 275 km from the state capital.
The property loss in the landslips is yet to be ascertained, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Balbir Thakur said.
“The affected families have been shifted to nearby areas and given an ex-gratia of Rs.5,000 each along with necessary rations,” he added.
Shiv Charan, Vice-President of the Kajlot panchayat, said the landslips started on Friday evening but help from the district administration reached only yesterday.

Students conduct cleanliness drive in Delhi

New Delhi: Around 200 students from the northeastern states studying in various colleges of Delhi University yesterday took part in a cleanliness drive to promote civic sense among students of the country.
The students under the banner “I love Delhi University” initiated by the Northeast Students Society of Delhi University, cleaned dirty areas of the university’s south campus.
They said they will organise similar campaigns in future to keep the campus clean.
“This is a very appreciable initiative by students from the northeast communities studying in various colleges of Delhi. I will request the other students to follow such initiatives to keep the university campus clean and serene,” said Motilal Nehru College principal B K Jain, who flagged off the cleanliness drive.
