Doha: The Social Development Center (SDC), member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science, and Community Development, has launched the 11th edition of the Volunteer Awards, setting November 30 as the final date to receive nominations.
Sponsored by Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) and Aspire Zone, the aim of the award remains focused on fostering a culture of volunteering among Qatari youth, acknowledge genuine efforts in volunteer work, motivate individuals and organizations to contribute time and effort to their communities.
Commenting on the occasion, Manar Al Dossari, Communications Manager of SDC said: “The volunteer awards is an important initiative that aims to encourage and honour existing volunteers while urging everyone else to take part in such programmes and submit their nominations to the various awards categories.”
Al Dossari reinforced the important role played by its partners, Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) and Aspire Zone in contributing and encouraging individuals and organizations to engage in volunteer activity and make valuable contributions to society.
Launched by SDC on November 6, 1999, the SDC Volunteer Awards are presented to individuals and organisations that actively engage in volunteer work, prioritise public service and constantly strive to have a positive impact on their communities.
The volunteer awards constitutes of five different categories covering individuals, enterprises, institutions and students research and projects. In 2012, a new category was added which is the Honorary Volunteer Award, recognizing remarkable volunteer work with significant impact on the community.
To be eligible to participate, work submitted must revolve around volunteer work or action that have served a large segment of the community with a clear continuity and development plan. Submissions for the Institutions Award Category must feature team efforts backed by research and facts, highlighting the positive impact and change.
