Washington: The US is considering a ban on most electronic devices on flights coming from European countries, expanding the procedures applied to flights from a number of countries in the Middle East and Africa.
Department of Homeland Security spokesman David Lapan said in a statement Tuesday that the department is about to take a decision to expand the ban as the summer vacation approaches. He added that airlines flying between Europe and the United States were warned of the possibility of carrying out the ban of electronic devices.
Last March, the US banned laptops, tablets and electronic games into passenger cabins in direct flights from a number of countries, citing the risk of "terrorist" attacks.
In a related context, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has begun efforts to develop comprehensive guidance on the use of personal computers and a number of electronic devices during flights.
The move comes after the United States and Britain applied selective bans to those devices on flights from specific countries in response to security threats.
