DOHA: Qatari girls and women aged 12 and over could benefit from the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) at three more hospitals.
Al Wakra Hospital, The Cuban Hospital and Al Khor Hospital are the new additions to NHIS provider network, joining HMC Women’s Hospital, Al Emadi Hospital, Al Ahli Hospital and Doha Clinic Hospital to bring the total number of participating hospitals providing inpatient and outpatient services to seven.
The hospitals will ensure that Qatari women and girls over the age of 12 living in communities outside Doha have easy access to the services currently covered under the scheme.
“The addition of Al Wakra Hospital, Al Khor and Cuban hospitals to the National Health Insurance Scheme marks an important step, especially as it comes just two months after the scheme’s launch, as we work to expand the level of the services while at the same time offering citizens more choice when selecting their healthcare provider,” explained Dr Faleh Mohamed Hussain Ali, acting CEO of the National Health Insurance Company (NHIC) which manages the NHIS.
“By the end of August we have seen nearly 5,000 Qatari women make use of the NHIS for their maternity, obstetrics, gynaecology and women’s health needs. The addition of three more providers to the scheme will ensure that we are able to accommodate the growing healthcare needs of communities living outside Doha,” he said.
The NHIS is being introduced in five stages over the next two years.
The first phase, launched in July, covers Qatari girls and women aged 12 and over for gynaecology, obstetrics, maternity and related women’s health issues.
Subsequent stages will expand services to cover all medical specialties, beginning with all Qatari nationals in early 2014 followed by a phased roll-out for non-nationals in 2015.
