The Peninsula organised a photography competition on the sidelines of the Media Expo Qatar 2012 which was held to mark the 25th anniversary of Al Sharq newspaper. The contest received over 120 entries, marking a successful inaugural edition of the contest. The photos were all taken at the expo itself, held at Doha Exhibition Centre, during the first two days of the event.
From the entries submitted by both amateur and professional photographers in Qatar, three were selected to receive cash prizes, medals and certificates.
The winners were all professional photographers and included Firos Syed, A K Bijuraj and Shajahan Moideen who bagged the first, second and third prizes respectively.
Firos Syed is a veteran photographer who has won several awards in international photo competitions such as the ones organised by the National Geographic and the Al Jazeera network.
