DOHA: Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q) will commence a new series of lectures tomorrow to simplify Qatari laws for the benefit of future entrepreneurs.
The first on foreign investment in Qatar will be held at 3pm tomorrow in the Moot Board Room.
The lectures are open to the public, students and faculty.
Speakers will explain how the local legal system works and equip the community with knowledge required to successfully set up a business in Qatar.
The process of setting up a new business can be confusing and aspiring entrepreneurs are often deterred by the lack of transparency in legal matters.
CMU-Q recognises this challenge and has collaborated with local law firm Al Misnad and Rifaat to provide community lectures to clarify rules to assist those in the process of setting up businesses and future entrepreneurs.
The series is organised by CMU-Q professors Thomas Emerson and George White. “Universities like CMU-Q create the right environment to inspire new businesses.
“The combination of bright students, talented faculty and open information creates an environment where local start-ups can flourish better,” Emerson said.
The first of four lectures will be an introduction to foreign investment in Qatar will be delivered by Aline El Sayed, Senior Associate at local law firm Al Misnad and Rifaat.
The public is also invited to the Qatari Law Lecture Series on November 14 on Employment Law, Property Law, Intellectual Property Law and Contract Law, November 21, on Securities Law, Bankruptcy Law, Franchise and Taxation and November 27, on Dispute Resolution, Litigation and Arbitration.
