CCQ-Qapco deal to fulfil need for professionals

DOHA: Making a new partnership between academy and industry the Community College of Qatar (CCQ) and Qatar Petrochemical Company (Qapco), yesterday signed a memorandum of understanding. 

The three-year agreement will allow improving the learning environment for the students of the CCQ and employees of Qapco, as the need for qualified professionals in the oil and gas industry is increasing. 

Dr Ibrahim Al Naimi, Acting President of the CCQ and Dr Mohamed Al Mulla, Vice Chairman and CEO of Qapco signed the agreement at an event held at CCQ’s C Ring road campus. 

“This is a new step in academy and industry. We will have a new site in Ras-Laffan, which will need 17,000 engineers and technicians. This kind of partnerships would help to get such qualified professionals,” said Dr Al Mulla. 

“Through the MoU we will work on a number of initiatives including an opportunity for the students to learn from Qatari employees at Qapco,” he added. 

Dr Al Mulla also stressed the need for vocational training in Qatar. 

Presently only one Qapco employee is studying at the CCQ and the numbers are likely to increase soon.

“The MoU will enable both parties to work more closely to create awareness about the oil and gas industry among the students. It will also allow Qapco employees to join the student community here and enrol in different associate degrees we offer,” said Dr Al Naimi. As a part of the MoU, Qapco will sponsor the newsletter to be published by the CCQ and provide library books. It will also support the CCQ recruitment fair, academic field trips, Qatar National Day activities and sports day activities. 

The CCQ is also planning to enter into partnership with several other private companies in the near future.

Earlier the General Administration of Qatar Customs and the CCQ, signed a Memorandum of Understanding to set up a teaching programme for Customs staff of the General Administration of Qatar Customs under the title of ‘Associate Diploma in Applied Science / Majoring in Customs Sciences’ to boost the scientific competence of the staff and to provide exceptional Customs Services to the pool of clients.  

CCQ’s Custom’s programme is in fact, the college’s first Associate of Applied Science Degree and will encompass 30 hours of general education courses, followed by courses specifically modified to teach students the fundamental essentials of customs management and border control.
