Two former officials of the Philippine National Police (PNP) have been charged with graft over a complaint of their subordinate who found himself dropped from the rolls in 2011.
The Office of the Ombudsman (OMB) filed before the Sandiganbayan a case of violation of Section 3(e) of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act (Republic Act 3019) against former Chief Superintendent Bienvenido Latag and former Senior Superintendent Jaime Pido.
Latag is the former regional director of Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao-Police Regional Office (ARMM-PRO), while, Pido had held the positions as chief of Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division and chief of the Regional Personnel and Human Resource Development Division of ARMM-PRO.
The graft case against the two former officials stemmed from the complaint of Inspector Romenick Linsangan who had been dropped from the rolls on July 1, 2011 due to absence without leave (AWOL).
The OMB said that, when they still held posts at the ARMM-PRO, the accused issued a 90-day preventive suspension against Linsangan on the basis of a criminal case of Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act filed by Goldberrie Carlos and its related administrative charge of grave misconduct.
The OMB found that the accused gave unwarranted benefits and advantage to Carlos and caused injury to Linsangan who lost salaries, allowances, and benefits since he got suspended and eventually dropped from the rolls of the PNP.
