Doha: Qatar-Finland International School (QFI) provides globally high performing Finnish educational practices tailored for the Qatari context.
It is a primary school for boys and girls. Admission for academic year 2014-2015 is open.
The school will host a launch event at 4pm on August 19 at Hilton Doha.
Prospective parents, educators, journalists and others interested are welcome to meet staff and find out more about the school and Finnish education.
“For us the child comes first — always,” says Principal Juha Repo. “Our job as educators is to sustain high school standards by supporting development of each and every one of our students. We believe that the best way to provide high-quality education is through the joy of learning.”
Operating through partnership with the campus-based school of the University of Jyvaskyla, Finland (ranked in the top 100 World Rankings QS 2013), QFI school opens for children aged 5-7.
Expansion towards Grade 6 commences in 2015.
The main language of instruction is English and language support will be provided for non-native English speakers, especially in the early years. All students study also Arabic language.
Teachers responsible for the curriculum hold Finnish MA degrees in education.
Finnish education has repeatedly been declared one of the best in the world by major global ranking studies such as PISA, TIMMS, and PIRLS.
Finnish strengths in education consist of a socio-constructivist concept of learning, excellent school operations, proven quality teacher training, constructive assessment and evaluation, and flexibility enabling a high level of child-centred learning.
QFI school was invited to Qatar by the Supreme Education Council. The school operates under the Outstanding Schools Programme, part of Qatar’s educational reform, Education for a New Era, through which Qatar is building a world-class education system.
It is operated by EduCluster Finland.
The school is in North Al Duhail, Al Khissa Area, Street No. 502.
