Washington: A 10-year study of 108 adults with stage 3 chronic kidney disease found that a fruit-and-vegetable diet may reduce hospital admissions and dialysis needs.
The diet group recorded 14 hospital admissions, 20 emergency visits and four dialysis cases, compared with 64, 88 and 16, respectively, among patients receiving standard care. Sodium bicarbonate showed no clear benefit.
Researchers called for further studies and stressed that dietary changes require medical supervision and do not replace prescribed medication.
The findings will be presented at Kidney Week 2026 in Denver, October 22-25.
