Qatar players are seen training at Al Gharafa Stadium in Doha. Qatar will take on Yemen in a 2015 Asian Cup qualifying match at the same venue tomorrow. Qatar coach Fahad Thani announced his squad for the match last week. The qualifying match will kick-off at 7:30pm.
DOHA: Qatar coach Fahad Thani said he will pick players on form rather than reputation for the team’s key 2015 Asian Cup qualifier tomorrow
“Every game is played with certain strategies in mind. We will do the same for our next game but the players who are in form and show good fitness will get picked,” coach Fahad Thani said after a training session.
Qatar host Yemen on October 13 at Al Gharafa Stadium.
The Qatar team has trained at the same venue after switching from Aspire Academy where the team is usually camped.
“We don’t pick players according to wishes of fans or supporters. Players who have shown good form so far are part of the national squad,” he added.
“My players know that collective team effort will be key and we are going to play as a unit,” he said.
“Players who show good form on the pitch select themselves,” the coach added.
Coach Fahad Thani said he hoped that the team gels well in the game against Yemen and carries that form to their forthcoming matches.
About the form of the players in the Qatar Stars League (QSL), he said the players have hit modest form.
He said the real form of the players and teams will be seen around the fifth week.
The match tomorrow will kick-off at 7:30pm at Al Gharafa Stadium.
