DOHA: Some 50 female professionals and students representing the oil and gas industry attended the ‘Women in Energy Event’ organised by Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE)- Qatar Section, said a statement yesterday.
The Qatar Section of SPE, chaired by Sheikh Faisal bin Fahad Al Thani, Deputy Manager Director of Maersk Oil Qatar, organised the second edition of Women in Energy Event recently.
Working in a male dominating industry like oil and gas, women often put their health and eating habits as the last priority. As a result they might be hit with lifestyle, chronic and acute ailments like obesity, backache, hyper-tension, depression, diabetes, high cholesterol, heart, kidney disease and many others. As the work load increases, women put less attention on what they eat or how much physical activity they have resulting in productivity loss and poor health choices.
In order to assist working women and draw attention to this critical issue, SPE Qatar Section invited local health coaches and plant based vegans to share their stories and advise on a better and healthier life style alternatives for working women.
Ghanim Al Sulaiti, Saba Rahbar and Setareh Raeisi shared their stories and presented methods of how to recover from unhealthy diets and gaining better eating habits resulting in overall healthier and more balanced lifestyle and increased working productivity as well as day to day performance.
In Qatar, there are over 435 professional members and over 159 student members at Qatar University and Texas A&M University, Qatar.
As one of many sections worldwide, SPE Qatar Section’s mission is to collect, disseminate and exchange technical knowledge concerning the exploration, development and production of oil and gas resources, and related technologies for the public benefits; and to provide opportunities for professionals to enhance their technical and professional competence.
