Paris: France, UK, and Germany announced on Wednesday their readiness to reimpose sanctions on Iran if a negotiated solution to Tehran's nuclear program is not reached by the end of August.
In a joint letter addressed to United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the UN Security Council, the foreign ministers of the E3 countries: Germany's Johann Wadephul, France's Jean-Noel Barrot, and the UK's David Lammy stated: "We have made clear that if Iran is not willing to reach a diplomatic solution before the end of August 2025, or does not seize the opportunity of an extension, E3 are prepared to trigger the snapback mechanism."
Moreover, they stressed their full commitment to a diplomatic resolution and their ongoing discussions to reach a negotiated settlement.
This message comes two months after the 12 day-long Israeli war on Iran, which featured US strikes on Iranian nuclear sites. These developments led to a breakdown in negotiations between Tehran and Washington, and in talks with the European trio.
