Al Rayyan's Danish coach Michael Laudrup has urged his players to back themselves against Iranian giants Persepolis when they two sides clash in an AFC Champions League match today.
Today's game will be played at Al Sadd Stadium where Al Rayyan will welcome Group D table-toppers Persepolis.
Al Rayyan suffered a hiccup in their last AFC Champions League game against Saudi side Al Hilal when the Qatar Stars League (QSL) giants lost 2-1 following an injury-time goal.
In the first game of the Champions League season, Al Rayyan beat Al Wahda 2-1 three weeks ago.
"We managed to win the first game with a good fight," Laudrup said yesterday during a press conference. "But we lost in the last minute against Al Hilal. We must look forward to winning against Persepolis," he added.
"It is a tough group, probably one of the toughest groups this year. We have strong sides like Al Hilal and Persepolis in our group," Laudrup, 52, said. "These two sides won't give the opportunity to other sides to qualify to next stage," he said.
"This will be our third game for us. For us to advance to next stage, we must win this game. I know that
"The good thing for us we will be playing in our own country. But like I said, we must play to win," he said.
Laudrup said key defensive midfielder Victor Javier Caceres will miss today's game because of two yellow cards.
"He is a key player for us. We will try to find a suitable replacement for him," Laudrup said without giving any further details.
"We have challenges to meet. We have to play with full force in order to qualify," Laudrup said.
"I am satisfied with the bunch of players I have," he added.
Persepolis, who warmed up for the clash with a 1-0 domestic victory over Esteghlal Khouzestan on Thursday, have already arrived in Doha.
In their second game of the Champions League campaign, a late Mehdi Taremi brace helped Persepolis claim a 3-2 win over Al Wahda to move ahead of second-placed Al Hilal at the top of Group D on goals scored.
