DOHA: A specialised facility of Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) for patients needing long-term care was officially inaugurated by Prime Minister, Interior Minister and Chairman of the Supreme Council of Health H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani.
Enaya Specialised Care Centre operates as a long-term care complex for patients who require round-the-clock monitoring and treatment from specialist nurses and doctors.
It is the one-of-its-kind facility in the country and one of the first in the Arab world.
Minister of Public Health H E Abdullah bin Khalid Al Qahtani, and Dr Hanan Al Kuwari, Managing Director, HMC, were present at the opening ceremony.
Operating as an 80-bed facility, the centre has now increased capacity to 156 inpatient beds with extra beds in three isolation units.
Modern patient rooms have with personal TV screens, local landline, smart lighting systems, and state-of-the-art beds.
Amenities include activity rooms, male and female gyms, therapy rooms, a sensory stimulation room, hair salon, laundry, and a portable X-ray machine.
A connecting bridge between the two buildings is a stand-out feature of the updated facility, which in 2014 won Best Hospital Design and Best Healing Environment awards at Hospital Build & Infrastructure Middle East Awards in Dubai.
The centre also won a Community and Culture Project award at Cityscape Qatar.
Following the official opening, the dignitaries toured the facility.
“The centre’s focus is to provide an advanced care system for long-term patients with chronic and degenerative diseases that restrict their ability to care for themselves.
“To do this, we utilise a team of specialised professionals who not only provide excellent medical care, but also look to enhance our patients’ ability to function independently, engage more with family and friends and where possible, help bring a sense of normalcy into their lives,” said Dr Al Kuwari.
One such patient is Ali Al Qahtani, 16, with cerebral palsy since birth. Following his move to Enaya, Ali’s mother, Seta Masoud Al Hebabi, said: “Overall, I am pleased with the care Ali is receiving here. The experience has been very good, including the quality of clinical care, clarity of communication, courtesy of doctors and nurses and staff-patient relationships.”
Ali and his brother were delighted to meet ministers and officials as were other patients.
The Premier and the Minister were invited to tour another recently opened facility, Qatar Biobank, at Hamad Bin Khalifa Medical City. The Peninsula
