Qatar bag three more medals at Baku Games

Qatar continued their impressive run at the shooting events of the Islamic Solidarity Games by clinching two more medals in Baku.
Ahmad Zayed Al Shammari gave Qatar the first silver of the event in 25m Standard Pistol Men’s while Kholoud Hassan Al Khalaf and Mohammed Khejaim combined to win the bronze medal in the Mixed Trap.
The third medal of the day came in gymnastics as Ahmed Al Dayani won bronze in pommel horse.
With yesterday’s three medals, Qatar took their medals tally to six, which includes one gold, a silver and four bronze.
In the 25m Standard Pistol Men’s, Ahmad finished with behind Azerbaijan’s shooter Ruslan Lunev, who clinched his third gold medal of the Games.
Ozgur Varlik from Turkey won the bronze medal.
The 19-year-old Qatari sharpshooter who had an impressive season to show off last year in the junior category, in both the team and individual event seem to be continuing from where he left.
In September, last year, Ahmad played a pivotal role in Qatar winning the team bronze medals in men’s 25M standard pistol and the 25M rapid fire at the International Shooting Sport Federation’s (ISSF) Junior World Cup for rifle, pistol and shotgun events in Gabala, Azerbaijan, last week.

Ahmad, Mohammed Nasser Al Yafei and Rabea Al Kuwari combined for a tally of 1,558 points to finish behind India (1,655) and Australia (1,645).
Ahmad was Qatar’s top shooter, collecting 540 points, while Nasser and Rabea tallied 520 and 498 respectively.
Al Shammari and Al Yafei were also among the top 10 in individual event, ending up seventh and ninth respectively.
In 25M rapid fire, Qatar’s trio of Ahmad, Mohammed and Rabea fired a tally of 1,661 points to finish behind India (1,725) and Australia (1,702).
Ahmad led Qatar’s charge and finished with a creditable 569, which placed him sixth in the individual performers’ list as well. He was followed by Mohammed, who shot 549, while Rabea secured 543.
In the Mixed Trap, Qatari duo of Al Khalaf and Khejaim finished behind Azerbaiujan which took the silver while Turkey clinched the gold.
Turkey are leading the medals tally followed by Azerbaijan while Uzbekistan and Indonesia are close on heels of the top-two.  A total of 300 competitors, representing 27 countries, battled for honours in 15 Olympic and three non-Olympic events at the 11-day event.
