DOHA: The Ministry of Economy and Commerce discovered 88 commercial fraud cases during its intensive inspection campaign in markets and commercial complexes during July 2014.
The campaign was aimed at checking prices and detecting irregularities as well as ensuring that suppliers adhere to licence obligations stipulated in the consumer protection law (Law No. 8 of 2008).
The consumer affairs section’s inspectors carried out a number of inspection campaigns in different areas of Doha. They detected 88 cases of commercial fraud, including failure to disclose the price of the commodity or service, and describing, advertising or displaying items in a manner that conveys false, deceptive or misleading information, the ministry said in a statement.
The statement pointed out that irregularities related to expired commodities were reduced compared to a report for June 2014, which is considered an indication of the success of the intensive inspection campaigns that have been carried out by the consumer affairs section’s inspectors, during which 70 irregularities were discovered during June 2014.
