Courts handled 81,169 cases over one year

DOHA: The Qatari courts handled 81,169 lawsuits over the past one year and issued verdicts in 66,020, data released by the Supreme Judicial Council yesterday showed.
Appeals referred to the Court of Cassation (Criminal Division) totalled 522, of which 323 were entertained while cases at the Criminal Appeal Court totalled 1,484 and rulings were issued in 1,094. Cases at the criminal court totalled 4,035 and verdicts were issued in 2,830. The misdemeanour court handled 6,286 cases and ruled in 5,400.
The Cheques Department handled 17,819 suits and ruled in 17,302 while cases at the traffic court totalled 3,037 and rulings were issued in 2,817. Environment Court received 823 suits and adjudicated them.
Violation and exit/arrivals claims at Court of Search and Follow-up totalled 7,846 and were adjudicated, said the council in a statement ahead of National Day.
A total of 20,330 civil suits were handled at courts and rulings were issued in 12,803. Suits related to labour law totalled 8,537 while family and inheritance claims and minors affairs reached 5,345 and rulings were issued in 3,921.
The number of administrative cases handled by courts totalled 1,009 and rulings were issued in 494. The number of enforcement requests dealt by courts totalled 24,990, while the number of applications completed by the Documentation Department for 2013 stood at 15,627.
