DOHA: More than 78 percent of the graduates of Qatar University (QU) during the 2013-2014 academic year were females, says a report released by QU ahead of National Day.
A total of 1,261 students graduated during the year, including 822 females and 273 males. The number of Qatari graduates stood at 649. The number of students increased by 59 percent over the past three years, reaching 16,499 during the 2013-2014 academic year.
QU provided financial aid to students such as monthly assistance, tuition fees, accommodation fees worth QR10,929,470 during the year and 53 percent of beneficiaries were Qataris and 57 percent non-Qataris.
The number of scholarships granted by QU during the academic year 2012-2013 increased by 10 percent compared to the past two years to reach 645 in different disciplines. During this year, the number of the faculty reached 817, including 161 Qataris.
DOHA: Fatma Al Remaihi has been appointed CEO of Doha Film Institute (DFI).
She will also serve as Director of the Ajyal Youth Film Festival and Qumra and build on DFI’s goals of promoting a strong film culture in Qatar through film appreciation, education and financing initiatives.
She has been DFI’s Acting CEO since August 2014 in addition to Director of the festival. She previously served as Director of Programmes.
Al Remaihi joined DFI in 2009 as Cultural Adviser to the first edition of the Doha Tribeca Film Festival. She was behind the establishment of a partnership with The Giffoni Experience, whose youth jury model informs the competition section of the Ajyal Youth Film Festival and brings together international youth media specialists for the Doha Giffoni Youth Media Summit. Born and raised in Doha, Al Remaihi graduated from Qatar University with a degree in English literature.
