Qatar ‘committed to protection of environment’

Lima: The Minister of Environment H E Ahmed Amer Mohamed Al Humaidi yesterday stressed that Qatar has attached attention to environmental and climate change issues.
He said the environment is one of the main pillars of Qatar National Vision 2030, a proof of the country’s belief in a balance between the environment and development. He told the closing session of the 20th Conference of Parties to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change that Qatar’s efforts to protect the environment are in line with Qatar National Vision 2030 laid down by the Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
He also highlighted projects in the field of climate change, including the reduction of gas emissions, raising the efficiency of burning mechanisms,  carbon management and energy efficiency.
He stressed the importance of cooperation to reach an agreement by 2015-end based on previous decisions, and commitment to provisions and principles of the convention on the basis of shared responsibility. He said developed countries should take the lead in the field of climate change. QNA
