DOHA: The Qatar Aeronautical College graduated its class of 2014 at a Passing Out ceremony at Hilton hotel yesterday.
A total of 107 students — 55 Qataris and 52 non-Qataris — (81 men and 26 women) graduated from the college’s Pilot Training, Aeronautical Engineering and Airport Operations Management Departments.
The Minister of Transport H E Jassim Seif Ahmed Al Sulaiti attended the ceremony.
The Qatari graduates will be employed by Qatar Airways and Civil Aviation Authority.
The Minister and Ali Ibrahim Al Malki, Director General of the college, awarded prizes and graduation certificates.
The 29 pilot graduates have successfully completed a 76-week training course, including an intensive ground instructional phase, 14 QCAA examinations, and a flying phase in which they flew single and twin-engine aircraft to pass two demanding QCAA flight examinations.
At the end of the course, they were awarded a Qatari Commercial Pilots Licence with a multi-engine Instrument Rating.
They also qualified for an Air Transport Pilots Licence Knowledge certificate. All these qualifications are internationally recognised and enable the graduates to proceed with their training in Qatar Airways or other commercial airlines.
The prize for the Best Overall Pilot Student was awarded to Ahmed Magdy Arafa Mohammed.
The 29 engineering graduates have completed an intensive two-and-a-half-year course in which they studied not only theoretical aspects of engineering but also practical skills required for their future careers.
Those qualifying as aircraft maintenance engineers completed the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and QCAA-approved Part 66 course licence, which will allow them to work in the maintenance hangars of Qatar Airways.
Additionally, the Air Transport Safety Electronics Personnel (A TSEP) course is designed specifically to provide qualified electronics systems engineers at Hamad International Airport.
The prize for the Best Overall Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Student was awarded to Loai Fouad M Abou-chahla. This year, 49 graduates from the Airport Operations Management Department were awarded certificates.
The Airport Operations Diploma extends over two years and includes courses from International Air Transport Association (lATA) and Qatar Aeronautical College.
Students graduating from this department completed courses covering airport terminals, cargo, ticketing and customer service.
They will be employed in different departments at Hamad International Airport and will prove themselves as an asset to the new facility. The prize for the Best Overall Airport Operations Management Student was awarded to Hassan Abdulaziz Jassim M A Jarman.
