Doha: Qatar Diabetes Association, a member of Qatar Foundation, organised the Annual Summer Al Bawasil programme recently at its premises in Al Muntazah.

Al Bawasil Health Club is an annual programme of recreational and educational activities organised by the Association for children diagnosed with diabetes from the age of six years to eleven years during the summer.

The programme gives children with diabetes a full day in a safe environment to have much fun and relate to each other while learning about their diabetes.

The programme included several ice breaker activities for the children to interact with their peers. They also participated in the Insulin Injection Sites workshop, the ceramic colouring workshop, the (Little Chef) session where the children prepared healthy snacks by themselves under the supervision of QDA dieticians.

Dr Abdullah Al Hamaq, Executive Director of the Qatar Diabetes Association, said, “Our approach is to learn by playing to reviewing and correcting children’s information like children’s response to learning is usually great in fun and enjoyable atmosphere.

“We also have introduced the children to (The International Al Bawasil camp for children with diabetes) for a smooth transition and to gain their confidence and encourage them to join the camp, which is organised annually by the association during January and requires the children to stay away from home for a week.”

The children interacted vigorously during the programme, enjoyed the wonderful time with their peers and enjoyed the healthy meals, certificates and the gifts presented to them.
