Sydney: A powerful earthquake measuring 6.9 magnitude struck off the coast of New Britain island in Papua New Guinea on Monday, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.
The tremor was estimated at a depth of 35 kilometres (22 miles) on New Britain island, 418 kilometres northeast of the capital Port Moresb.
There was no tsunami warning issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center and there were no immediate reports of damage. (QNA)
