Islamabad: At least seven people, including women and children, were killed and three sustained injuries in an unfortunate traffic mishap yesterday morning near here.
Police said that a head-on collision between an oil taker and a car coming from the opposite direction left seven persons killed and three sustained injuries near village Khan Bagh here.
Police said the incident occurred due to thick blanket of fogs causing poor visibility.
Landmine blast kills four kids
Kabul: A landmine explosion left four children dead in the Dehrawood district in Afghan central Uruzgan province, an official said yesterday.
The governor’s spokesman Abdullah Himat told (Pajhwok) Afghan news agency that the explosion took place last evening, killing four children, aged between 6 and 8 years.
The victims were playing in the area where the explosive device had been planted.
He blamed militants for planting roadside bombs that often killed innocent civilians, including children. However, the Taliban have not yet commented on the incident.
Landmine blasts have surged across the country, causing civilian casualties. Several people died in such incidents in Kunar Paktika, Logar and Nangarhar provinces.
Sharif balks at fuel hike appeal
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his cabinet colleagues are divided over a proposed substantial increase in gas tariff from next month under an agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The prime minister said that the government was already facing severe criticism over the general price hike, particularly of electricity, and it would not be advisable to increase gas tariff when its supply to most of the consumers was being reduced because of shortage.
