DOHA: Qatar is the first tourist destination in the Middle East to be featured in The Telegraph Media Group’s series of Telegraph Travel downloadable apps for smartphones and tablets.
The group is one of the UK’s leading newspaper publishers and its core publications include  The Daily Telegraph and Sunday Telegraph. The Telegraph Travel, the UK’s current ‘Travel Website of the Year’, has complemented the launch with editorial and advertorial coverage in its online and print editions.
“The importance of the promotion is underlined by the fact that the UK consistently ranks as one of Qatar’s top travel source markets and about 132,000 British visitors to Qatar in 2013 outnumbered 86,000 from all other European countries combined,” said Rashed AlQurese, Chief Marketing and Promotions Officer, Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA).
QTA and Telegraph have partnered with a British tour operator, Tropical Sky, on the promotion. It facilitates readers attracted by Qatar’s tourism offerings to make their travel bookings with maximum convenience. The apps provide content on all aspects of the destination of interest to tourists, with an overview and sections on Getting There, Stay, Eat, Drink, Do, Free Things to Do, Beaches and Shop. The apps have  been featured in ‘Apple’s Best New Apps’, ranked No. 1 among free travel apps and has over 80,000 downloads. The Peninsula
