DOHA: Qatar Fuel (Woqod), the leading fuel retailer, is set to open a mobile (makeshift) fuel station in Al Shamal within a few days.
It will provide all possible services, including Premium petrol, to residents of the area, local Arabic daily Al Raya reported yesterday.
Residents of Al Shamal were reportedly facing shortage of petrol and diesel following the closure of the sole fuel station for maintenance.
Responding to reports of fuel shortages, Woqod is distributing diesel and Super quality petrol, also called Aadi, through mobile fuel tankers.
Services are available for 12 hours every day.
Customers had complained about non-availability of Premium petrol and expressed concerns related to safety and heat.
They said customers and staff are exposed to the extreme heat in the absence of adequate shaded facilities in the area.
“Very soon we are going to establish a shaded mobile fuel station to provide all possible services, including Premium petrol, said the daily quoting a source in Woqod.
“Serving residents of Al Shamal in a better way is our priority. We are also in the process of studying demand for fuel in the area to consider an extension of services for more than 12 hours,” said the source.
Earlier in a statement, Woqod said, “Current procedures are temporary and for a very short period of time, which should not exceed a few days; and the company had reverted to such procedures in light of the urgent need to close the station for maintenance work required for public safety and for better conservation of the local environment from any potential contamination or pollution hazards.
“Woqod is studying the actual need for tankers in the area, and if it turns out there is a need for an extended availability for more than 12 hours, Woqod shall not hesitate in providing so; and in that case, terms for tankers’ availability shall be extended for additional hours, especially to avoid any jamming.”
Allaying concerns related to safety of the procedures, Woqod assured that “there are no dangers associated with these supply measures (through tankers) because tankers are fully equipped with required equipment to ensure safety, security and deal with gas emissions.
“Thus, there is no danger in such procedures that are adopted at many project sites in Qatar, where tankers are used for supplies.”
