Doha: Qatar has embarked on establishing two projects to protect the environment and wildlife in the Chinese province of Xinjiang.
One is for the propagation of the saker falcon, both white and blond, and the other for breeding Asian Houbara bustard.
The Minister of Environment H E Ahmed bin Amer Mohamed Al Humaidi received a delegation from Xinjiang to discuss arrangements for the projects.
He said, “Qatar has great interest and care for the environment, especially those elements having a great value in the heritage of the Gulf and Qatar such as the saker .
The projects are consistent with the Qatar National Vision 2030 which aims at the sustainability of the environment and natural elements, as part of efforts by the state represented by the Office of the Foreign Reserves at the ministry to support regional and international efforts to protect the nature and develop  endangered wildlife and protect their natural habitats, the Minister said.
During a ceremony to lay the foundation stone for the projects, the Xinjiang environment minister thanked Qatar, the Emir, the government and people for interest in the environment and efforts to preserve it.
“The establishment of the centres, which will have a positive impact on maintaining the sustainability of such birds, is critical for the protection of rare species facing extinction on a global level,” he said, adding that all studies and research at the centres will contribute to the enrichment of knowledge for several generations to come.
