Qatar, Czech bilateral trade reaches QR605m in 2021

Doha: The Qatari-Czech business meeting, which was held yesterday at the Qatar Chamber headquarters discussed ways to enhance commercial and industrial cooperation relations and investment opportunities available in the two countries, including cooperation between business owners in both countries and the possibility of establishing alliances that enhance trade and investment exchange.

The Qatari side was headed Qatar Chamber’s First Vice-Chairman Mohamed bin Towar Al Kuwari, while the Czech delegation was headed by the Minister of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic H E Jozef Síkela, in the presence of the Vice- President of Czech Chamber of Commerce Radek Jakubsky and a number of businessmen and heads of companies from both countries.

The Czech Minister commended the bilateral relations between Qatar and the Czech Republic, pointing out that there is a great desire to strengthen these relations, especially in the trade and investment fields.

He invited Qatari businessmen and investors to consider the investment climate and opportunities available in the Czech Republic, signalling that there are great opportunities, especially in the energy, technology, and industry sector.

Al Kuwari went on to highlight the strong bilateral relations between Qatar and the Czech Republic in various fields, as well as the common desire to strengthen these relations, especially in the commercial and economic fields. He pointed to the volume of trade exchange between both countries which amounted to about QR605m in 2021. The balance of trade shifted to the Czech side with exports to Qatar amounting to QR556m, compared to Qatari exports to the Czechs worth QR49m.

Al Kuwari expressed his hope to increase the volume of bilateral trade and fine-tune the balance of trade between the two countries, pointing out that this can be achieved through strengthening cooperation between the private sectors in both countries and enhancing mutual investments.

He stressed that Qatar has been able to provide an attractive investment environment through the facilities and incentives that allow foreign investors to invest up to 100 percent in various sectors and economic activities, as well as the advanced infrastructure, and economic laws and legislation that have contributed to Qatar being recognised as a leading destination for investment and business. These features serve as a call for Czech companies to invest in Qatar and benefit from the attractive investment climate and the advantages it offers to foreign investors, and the opportunities available in various sectors, he said.

He added that Qatar’s promising markets welcomes Czech investments, and reiterated that the Qatar Chamber encourages Qatari businessmen to invest in the Czech Republic which has great potential and promising investment opportunities in all fields.

Also speaking during the event, Jakubsky said the Czech trade delegation includes 16 Czech companies that are active in the sectors of manufacturing, energy, real estate, finance, health and others, which establishes a new stage in the growing Qatari-Czech trade relations.

He indicated that the Czech Chamber of Commerce has 16,000 affiliate companies, representing 60 percent of the total GDP in the Czech Republic. He added that the Czech Republic hosts major international brands, especially in the automotive sector, and expressed his aspiration for more Czech investments in the Qatari market.
