DOHA: Thunderstorms lashed some parts of the country yesterday, while many other areas received scattered rains.

Heavy rains accompanied by thunder and strong winds were reported from areas including Al Sailiya, Al Murra, Mesaeed, Al Wakra and Nasiriyah. No further rains are expected today, according to the Meteorology Department.

Scattered rains were reported from Al Shamal, Dukhan, Abu Hamour and parts of the Industrial Area.

The showers that started at around 10am left many low-lying areas inundated. The Traffic Department through its Twitter account advised people visiting Sealine to drive cautiously due to “heavy rains”.

“This was the heaviest rains I have seen this year. It started as a drizzle and gathered force turning to a torrent, accompanied with thunder and strong winds. The showers continued for nearly half an hour,” said a resident of Sailiya.

A motorist driving through the Mesaieed- Al Wakra road said he could see puddles of water in many low-lying areas. A cloudy weather blanketed the city throughout the day. The weather today is expected to be “fine to partly cloudy”, according to the Meteorology Department. Temperature in Doha would hover between 20 to 26 degrees Celsius. The northwesterly winds would blow at speeds ranging from five to 18km.
