DOHA: The much-awaited finals of this year’s Youth Got Talent kicked off yesterday at the ongoing Run The World Festival at Katara Beach.
Over 50 finalists are competing in the talent search, which is one of the highlights of the annual regional youth festival organised by The Youth Company (TYC) in partnership with Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum under Qatar Museums Authority.
Yesterday, participants faced off in a spectacular display of talents in singing, dancing and musical instruments in front of a national celebrity panel of judges.
The contest started with a three-day auditioned last month which saw over 120 participants.
This was followed by a semi-final round two weeks ago at Virgin Megastore in Villaggio mall, and finalists were chosen through public voting.
Winners will be announced at the conclusion of the talent search tonight.
As TYC’s largest and most anticipated event in the GCC, all RTW 2013 programmes engage tens of thousands of participants in various activities.
Visitors can engage in sports on the beach, watch extreme shows by leading athletes such as Parkour and skateboarding, enjoy musical performances and explore community, cultural and commercial booths in the RTW Village.
Meanwhile, Williams, one of the world’s leading Formula One teams, is showcasing one of its Formula One cars, with a special Qatar livery at the festival.
The company is also exhibiting its latest driver training simulator that is now part of the Interior Ministry’s ‘One Second!’ road safety campaign.
The mobile Williams simulator has been designed, engineered and produced by a team of engineers, many of whom young graduates from Qatar’s universities, at the Williams Technology Centre Qatar in  Qatar Science & Technology Park.
Damien Scott, General Manager of Williams Advanced Engineering in Qatar, said: “Over the course of the festival I hope many young people in Qatar will be able to experience our driving simulator and take away some vital road safety messages.
“As a company with a long history in motor racing, we understand the importance of driver training and education.
“There are far too many young people injured on the roads in Qatar and I hope through partnerships such as this road safety messages are taken on board.”
Aya Abu Issa, CEO of TYC Qatar, added: “There’s no doubt that there will be a lot of excitement around the Williams presence at RTWF 2013 from our side as organisers and thousands of visitors we are expecting this year.
“Having the Formula One racing team on board for the festival is an honour and huge promise for youth empowerment and awareness, keeping in mind that one of the most serious issues in Qatar is road safety.”
