Paris: Qatar’s Ambassador to France Sheikh Meshal bin Hamad Al Thani has denied that Qatar offered any kind of support to extremist groups in the Middle East and Africa and said such allegations were false.
In a statement, he said though claims had been repeatedly reported, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius recently noticed that the French government’s investigation revealed that such claims had no basis.
Sheikh Meshal said Qatar doesn’t finance or support terrorist groups and has taken measures to prevent them from being funded by Qataris.
He said Qatar also took initiatives to combat terrorism and enacted a legislation that prevents money laundering and online promotion of terror activities.
He said Qatar is a member of Global Counter Terrorism Forum and cooperates with the United Nations and major governments on initiatives to combat terrorism.
The false claims by some people might enhance their personal agendas but don’t resolve conflicts that threaten a peaceful and stable future for everyone, Sheikh Meshal said, stressing that Qatar is firmly against terrorism and claims suggesting otherwise are false and deceitful. QNA
