DOHA: The joint committee supervising the National Sport Day (NSD) activities has asked event organisers to avoid serving fast food to the participants. This year’s sport day falls on February 10.
The advice is part of a set of standards and requirements prepared by the committee for the National Sport Day which has entered its fourth year.
The committee has stressed the importance of consuming and serving healthy food during the sport day activities with a specific reference about avoiding fast food.
The committee until now has received 113 applications from different entities and organisations seeking approval to organise National Sport Day activities, Al Sharq reported.
The Minister of Youth and Sports H E Salah bin Ghanim Al Ali (pictured) issued a decision No. 140 of 2014 on organising National Sport Day events.
The decision incorporated the recommendations of the joint committee. The committee has also made comprehensive studies on sport day events carried out during the past three years.
It is mandatory for every ministry and government body as well as private and public institutions to inform the supervising committee about its plans.
The organisers must take into account the health and safety aspects of the activities they are planning to organise.
The activities should match the age and the health condition of the participants.
There should be a clear plan about the nature and duration of the activities so that the participants do not over exert.
The activities should also take into account the security and safety requirements. They should be held in sports facilities, public parks and premises of the companies and establishments. It is not allowed to pitch tents for this purpose.
In case the organisers don’t find a public park or sports facility for organising the events, they must take approval from the Civil Defence if they want to set up a dedicated facility. The organisers should avoid shows and stunts during the celebrations.
