Doha: Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) carried out an Iftar project at Al Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock with a budget of QR203,700 since the beginning of Ramadan and distributed over 770 food baskets to needy families in Jerusalem.
The project, which QRC began to prepare from June, provided Iftar and Suhour meals for people coming to the mosque for prayers and I’tikaf from Palestinian areas.
The project, in cooperation with Jerusalem Zakat Committee, is divided into two parts: The distribution of Iftar meals over two weeks in the courtyard of the mosque, where about 3,000 fasting people benefited. QRC will continue to provide these meals until the 28th day of the holy month.
The second part involves the distribution of food baskets to needy families in Jerusalem and towns and villages on the outskirts of the holy city, including villages northwest of Jerusalem, Al Ayzariya, Abu Dis, Sawahra, Anata and the Shuafat refugee camp. About 770 food baskets were distributed, one for each family and benefited nearly 3,850 people.
The panel praised QRC’s efforts to do good, support the Palestinian people and alleviate their suffering, especially in Jerusalem and at the mosque.
QRC has allocated QR2,338,700 for the project being implemented in Palestine, Syria, Central Africa Republic, Sudan, Nepal, and the Philippines for the benefit of about 58,600 people. QNA
