CHANDIGARH--The BJP on Tuesday announced its government in Haryana would soon set up a commission to probe the land deals of Congress president Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law Robert Vadra in the state. After meeting the chief minister and other ministers, BJP's Haryana in-charge Anil Jain said they would not work in a vindictive manner against anybody, but the public had every right to know the truth behind the Vadra case.
Asked whether he had discussed the issue of inquiry with chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Jain said: "Whatever I'm saying is with full responsibility. Functionaries of the state government collectively would decide in what manner the matter should be probed."
Jain said there was no need to jump to conclusions. "The inquiry would be conducted in a thorough manner after receiving information regarding the matter," he said.
Asked if the proposed commission will also probe land deals other than Vadra's, Jain said the CM would state the scope of the inquiry but all related subjects were being examined and an announcement would be made soon.
Ahead of the Haryana assembly elections, the BJP had promised to order a probe into the Vadra cases if it was voted to power. During the poll campaign, Prime Minister Narendra Modi too had raised the issue prominently. But the Khattar government was yet to order a formal inquiry despite completing nearly two months in power.
